Numidia Dragway Money Races, Saturday, May 29th, 2010

We visited Numidia Dragway on Saturday, May 29th, 2010. It was Memorial Day Weekend, and the track was hosting a three-day weekend of big-money Electronics and Footbrake races, along with the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Drag Racers Association (MANDRA). We brought the Dragtime Dodge for the Footbrake race, and although I didn't go too many rounds, we had a great time. The racers we spoke to were very friendly and all gave Numidia's management high marks. The facility is clean and very family-focused, with a covered pavilion for eating, a playground for the kids, and spotless restrooms. And the surrounding area is beautiful; it doesn't get any more pastoral. What follows is Part 1 of photos and videos from our visit. Numidia Dragway has a whole series of money-races in 2010; see their ads throughout the site for details about upcoming races.

PLEASE NOTE: between racing the Dodge and shooting 300-plus photos and almost an hour of video, we were so busy that we often couldn't talk to the racers we photographed to get names, etc, so if there are no captions on your photo, please accept our apologies. Also, I know some of the video is shaky, but no amount of image-stabilization will help when zooming 40X from 1/4-mile away.

This is the view looking beyond the starting line. Numidia Dragway is worth the trip for the scenery alone.
Another view ...
...and one more.
Everywhere you look from the track is an unbelievable sight.
This plaque is near the starting line.
Modern bracket machines and vintage drag cars; they were all here today.
The English Brothers are fixtures of MANDRA.
Our sport has always been about family, and this father and son illustrate that. They stopped by to look at the Dodge, and told me they just wanted to come out and watch some racing together. It was nice to see non-racers enjoying a day at the track.
This is my newest fan, Jayden, who came to the track with his mother Denise. After I lost, Jayden said maybe I need some more practice. Rascal!
Just a few of us who were hoping to get to the Numidia Winner's Circle today.
A classic Ford vs. Chevy match-up in the lanes.
