Wrap-Up: IHRA Summit Spectacular at State Capitol Raceway, 4/21/2018 - 4/22/2018
Comeaux, Hughes Make History at IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular

PORT ALLEN, La. — Perry Comeaux and Brian Hughes made history as the first winners of the new International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Sportsman Spectacular races at State Capitol Raceway.

Comeaux from Praireville, La., was the winner of Saturday’s Moser $10k race. Hughes from Diana, Texas was the winner of the LaQuinta Inn & Suites $5k race, which was moved up to Saturday night due to a wet weather forecast.

The IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular was created to produce a double-race weekend with increased purses that is affordable for grassroots, bracket-racing competitors who support their local tracks each week. Saturday’s action did just that.

Comeaux (below) was presented an IHRA Ironman Trophy and a large championship check for $10,000 for his efforts. Brad Roberts of Carthage, Texas captured the $2,000 runner-up prize.

Dalton Lummus (below) from China, Texas picked up $700 for his win in the Junior Dragster division. Cole Walker from Denham Springs, La., got the $200 runner-up prize.

Hughes (below) received a large championship check for $5,000 and an IHRA Ironman Trophy for his winning efforts on Saturday night. Hughes will also receive a unique custom painted, one-of-a-kind trophy helmet from IHRA partner Imagine That Customs. Josh Enroth from Gulfport, Miss., ended up with $1,500 in prize money for finishing runner-up and earning a semifinal-round bonus.

Trey Gallet (below) from Breaux Bridge, La., received the $700 prize as the Junior Dragster winner as Lummus was again in the finals, earning $200 as the runner-up. Each of the weekend’s runner-up finishers also received a special IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular medal.

Seth Hyatt (below) captured a $1,000 prize as the highest finishing No Box racer for Saturday. Robbie Mullins earned the $1,000 bonus as the No Box winner on Saturday night.

In addition, all IHRA members who advanced to the semifinal rounds received bonuses from Summit Racing Equipment and there were several round-prize winners seen here thanks to the IHRA’s great partners.

Racers can sign up for the next IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular event on May 18-20 at Keystone Raceway Park in New Alexandria, Pa., by clicking here.
