I'm thinking there's a better way to cool down after making a pass.

This is Pontiac racer Jamey Horton (Pontiac the car, not Pontiac, Michigan). He's holding up his losing time slip that illustrates what has happened to many of us.

Jamey is in the right lane and will be chasing the car in the left. Jamey has almost a tenth of a second advantage at the 'Tree. Because his opponent was so late, Jamey catches him sooner than expected. As a result he started tightening it up too soon which killed his momentum and allowed the opponent to get there first by .0017.
I took the Dodge all the way to the final for the win in Pro ET. It was a fun day here at Raceway Park.
